KUALA LUMPUR (June 25): Grant Thornton Malaysia senior executive director Chow Chee Yen has been elected as the new president of the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia (CTIM).

Soh Lian Seng, who heads the KPMG Tax Services practice in Malaysia, was meanwhile elected as the deputy president at CTIM's annual general meeting on Saturday (June 25).

In a statement, CTIM said Chow succeeds Farah Rosley who held the post for three terms.

It said Chow has more than 30 years of tax experience and was involved in tax engagements concerning cross-border transactions, tax due for diligence review, restructuring schemes, corporate tax planning, group tax review, inbound investments, and goods and services tax.

On the other hand, CTIM said Soh has over 25 years of professional experience and focuses on bringing professional acumen, capabilities, connectivity and technology-powered solutions to the most complex business challenges and transformation projects that tax leaders face.

CTIM members also elected four council members comprising Soh, Agnes Wong Ling Lee (GBS Tax Services), Sharon Yong Nyuk Li (Ernst & Young Tax Consultants) and Theneshkanna (Thenesh, Renga & Associates).

Established in 1991, CTIM members comprise branches of the tax practice in Malaysia and members of more than 3,900 tax professionals consisting of licensed tax agents, legal practitioners, accountants, academics and other tax practitioners as well as members from government bodies.
