PUTRAJAYA (Sept 28): The government has accorded Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali a state funeral following her death at the National Heart Institute (IJN) on Monday morning.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said he directed Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Chief of Defence Forces General Tan Sri Malek Razak Sulaiman to assist with funeral arrangements and conduct.
“On behalf of the government and the people of Malaysia, I convey my profound sorrow and condolences on the passing of the late Dr Siti Hasmah, who breathed her last at the IJN this morning (Monday). The nation will always remember her maternal figure and appreciate her contributions.
“I have directed the chief secretary to the government and chief of defence forces to assist with the arrangements and accord Allahyarham Tun Dr Siti Hasmah a state funeral,” he said in a statement.
Anwar, who is also the finance minister, also conveyed his condolences to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the entire family on Tun Dr Siti Hasmah’s passing.
“My thoughts and prayers, together with those of my family, are with the family as they face this loss. May Allah SWT forgive all her sins, accept her good deeds and place her among the faithful. Al-Fatihah,” he said.
Tun Dr Siti Hasmah died at the IJN on Monday morning at the age of 100.
