KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 8): The government has pledged to investigate every recommendation thoroughly and the findings in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), following a decree by the King, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the move was in line with the Madani government’s commitment to ensuring a comprehensive investigation into the report.
“I humbly thank His Majesty for granting me an audience to brief him on several important developments concerning the country’s interests and the well-being of the people.
“His Majesty’s order for a thorough investigation into the RCI report reflects the Madani government’s commitment to ensuring that every recommendation and finding is fully investigated without compromise,” he said.
Anwar said the matter was among several key developments discussed during his more than hour-long audience with Sultan Ibrahim at Istana Bukit Tunku here on Saturday.
He said TH manages a trust built from the hard-earned savings of millions of Malaysians, including farmers, civil servants and middle- and lower-income earners who have spent years saving to perform the haj pilgrimage.
Anwar, who is also finance minister, said there could be no betrayal of such a significant trust, and those found to have misused it must be held accountable under the law.
The RCI report on TH, published on July 29, detailed various findings concerning weaknesses in the institution’s management and operations between 2014 and 2020.
The prime minister also briefed the King on developments in the investigation into Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), saying the government was reviewing the special task force report to determine the appropriate action in accordance with the law.
Anwar said the Madani government remained steadfast in upholding good governance, transparency and accountability, with no one who betrayed the people’s trust spared from firm action, regardless of position or rank.
He said the government would continue to reinforce security controls at the country’s entry points through effective enforcement, continuous surveillance and close inter-agency cooperation to tackle cross-border crime while protecting national security and sovereignty.
“Insya-Allah, I and the entire government will remain committed to His Majesty’s decree to strengthen governance, enforcement and national security, while ensuring the well-being of the people,” he said.
