(March 29): South Korean authorities have summoned former president Moon Jae-in for questioning as a part of an investigation into allegations of bribery related to his ex-son-in-law’s appointment at a Thai airline, Yonhap reported, citing an unidentified official at the prosecutors office.
The Jeonju District Prosecutors Office notified Moon last month that he is required to report for questioning regarding allegations that bribery was involved in the appointment of his daughter’s former husband, surnamed Seo, by budget carrier Thai Eastar Jet, according to the report.
The prosecutor’s office is coordinating schedules with the former president’s legal team to arrange the questioning, Yonhap cited the official as saying.
Seo took up the position at the airline after its founder and former two-term lawmaker, Lee Sang-jik, was appointed as the head of the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency, Yonhap reported. The prosecutors office alleges that Moon and his daughter Da-hye received compensation related to Seo’s appointment, according to the news agency.
