SUBANG JAYA (April 1): Gas Malaysia Bhd’s (KL:GASMSIA) wholly owned Gas Malaysia Distribution Sdn Bhd confirmed that their facilities were not involved in a fire incident that occurred in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, early Tuesday morning.
"We would like to clarify that the incident did not involve our gas facilities," a company spokesperson said in a statement.
“We are evaluating the situation and its impact [on] our customers,” it said, adding that the company is working closely with relevant authorities and gas suppliers to monitor developments following the incident.
Gas Malaysia has assured stakeholders that it will maintain regular contact with all shippers, including end users, and provide updates as the situation develops.
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department has confirmed that the fire on Tuesday morning involved a Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) gas pipeline leak, with an estimated 500 metres of the pipeline engulfed in flames.
Authorities have yet to release details on whether there were any casualties at the time of writing.
Petronas has separately said that the fire occurred at its main pipeline near Putra Heights, Puchong, and that the affected pipeline has been isolated. It also said it is working closely with the local authorities to manage the situation and “will provide additional information in due course, as the investigation is still being carried out”.
