GEORGE TOWN (March 26): One of Malaysia’s largest food producers, CAB Cakaran Corporation Bhd (KL:CAB), has expanded its retail footprint with the opening of its 15th medium-sized supermarket, Home Mart Fresh & Frozen Sdn Bhd, in Sri Rambai, Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

This expansion strengthens CAB Cakaran’s retail presence in Malaysia, with the group now operating eight fully owned Home Mart outlets and holding a 58.02% stake in seven Pasaraya Jaya Gading outlets.

In a statement on Wednesday, CAB Cakaran said it plans to open another five to seven Home Mart outlets this year, depending on its ability to secure locations in the outskirts of Peninsular Malaysia.

Group managing director Christopher Chuah Hoon Phong said the company’s long-term strategy is to build a widespread network of such outlets across Peninsular Malaysia, as a key distribution channel for its products.

“Through our retail outlets, we can sell approximately 200 chickens per outlet per day. We see this as a cost-effective way to strengthen our presence in the food business. Our long-term strategy is to open another 50 to 100 outlets over the next five to 10 years,” he added.

Currently, CAB Cakaran’s 15 Home Mart and Jaya Gading outlets are located in Pahang, Kelantan, Perak, Penang, and Kedah.

The group recently reported a net profit of RM33.89 million, on the back of a revenue of RM593.61 million for its first quarter ended Dec 31, 2024.

CAB Cakaran’s core business includes breeding and farming grandparent stock, parent stock, and broilers; trading poultry feed and farm consumables; chicken processing and manufacturing; and trading processed meat-based food products.
