KUALA LUMPUR (March 30): Kota Kinabalu’s property landscape continues to evolve — this time with The Peninsula, a 14.85‑acre mixed‑use development built on reclaimed land. In this week’s cover story, City & Country sits down with Trillium Development Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Clement Chu to explore the vision and masterplan behind the project.
Designed to be a city within a city, the master plan will comprise four towers with commercial suites designed for short-term rental, as well as a three-star hotel, a five-star hotel, an office tower, a shopping mall, a retail block and two residential towers. These components will all be connected via an elevated and publicly accessible one-acre central park.
Also in this issue, we present the findings of an industry survey by the Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association (Rehda) Malaysia, which shows that property developers are optimistic about the market in the second half of this year (2H2025). Rehda Malaysia president Datuk Ho Hon Sang highlighted that the overall optimism is at its highest in five years, signalling a positive outlook for the sector.
In our "Know Your Stuff"column, we speak to accredited building inspector and trainer Anthony Lee Tee to share his knowledge on the do’s and don'ts of house defect inspection. Meanwhile, look out for the latest update on the take-up rate for the second phase of Mitraland Group’s 22 Quartz landed development. The phase, worth RM455 million, will have 326 three-storey homes with built-ups of 2,766 to 3,493 sq ft.
In this week’s "MySpace" section, Master Builders Association Malaysia president Oliver Wee says contractors in the construction industry are facing several challenges in the form of government policies, increased compliance costs, and new regulations. The association urges the government to consider alternative revenue streams, and delay any new costs or taxes to avoid impacting the industry’s viability and economic growth.
