KUALA LUMPUR (March 16): The "major reshuffle" of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Central Executive Committee (CEC) was aimed at giving more leaders the opportunity to showcase their abilities, said party secretary general Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
He stated that DAP’s strength lies in its collective leadership, and the changes were made after careful consideration to form a strong team.
"Some changes were made to ensure that more leaders have the opportunity to work for the party and demonstrate their leadership qualities," he said at a press conference after announcing the new 30-member CEC lineup.
Among the notable changes, Bagan member of Parliament (MP) Lim Guan Eng has been named the party’s adviser, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo has taken over as the party’s national chairman, and Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has been appointed DAP’s deputy national chairman.
On the co-option of 10 additional CEC members, Loke said the party would decide at a later date.
Meanwhile, when asked about the election results, Lim expressed gratitude to the delegates who voted for him and emphasised the need for party unity under Loke’s leadership.
"As I have said many times, my future is determined by the delegates, not outsiders. I respect the decision made by the delegates," he said.
