SHAH ALAM (March 16): While the Democratic Action Party (DAP) is a firm ally of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, party chairman Lim Guan Eng emphasised that it will never be a "yes-man" party.
Speaking at DAP’s 18th National Congress on Sunday in Anwar’s presence, Lim said the party is proud to have helped Anwar become prime minister and will continue to support him.
“DAP has been your staunchest ally, as demonstrated by successive DAP secretary generals, from Lim Kit Siang to Anthony Loke (Siew Fook). DAP is proud that we helped you become prime minister, and will continue to do so.
“However, let me stress that DAP is not a ‘yes-man’ party. DAP is only a ‘yes-man’ to our voters and the people of Malaysia,” Lim said.
Lim also commended various political and institutional reforms implemented by the Unity Government this year, but expressed hope that economic reforms would be included and accelerated.
The former finance minister also highlighted potential economic challenges, citing US President Donald Trump’s planned tariff policies, which could impact Malaysia’s exports.
Lim said he hoped that additional financial assistance could be provided to businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and urged the government to postpone or delay financial policies that may impose additional financial burdens.
