KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 18): The Malaysian Insurance Institute (MII) has officially rebranded as the Asian Institute of Insurance (Aii), as it now aims to lead the insurance education and professional development across Asia.

Aii chief executive officer (CEO) Paul Low said that the insurance institution is committed to address the changing needs of the insurance industry in this dynamic global landscape.

Aii will now focus on digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI) via its e-learning platform, as well as strengthening its environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles, Low said.

“With a membership of 23,250 professionals across nine countries, Aii is strategically positioned to drive initiatives that elevate skills and professionalism throughout Asia,” Low said at the rebranding ceremony on Wednesday.

Aii, which has been shaping the Malaysian insurance landscape and providing certification courses across Asean, was founded in 1968 as Pusat Latihan Insurans Malaysia and changed to MII in 1984.

Aii's qualifications are recognised by esteemed international organisations, including the UK's Chartered Insurance Institute and the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance.

Meanwhile, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour said that the insurance industry has increasingly interconnected in the Asean region.

“With over 650 million people in Asean alone, the insurance and takaful sector benefits from unprecedented opportunities to expand their reach and diversify their offerings to meet the varying protection needs within the region,” Abdul Rasheed said when officiating the rebranding ceremony.

The BNM governor said with Aii rebranding, the insurance industry will be able to tap into a broader pool of expertise, while leveraging on larger sources of capital and boost its capability to develop innovative products and meet larger protection needs.

“I am confident that, in time, Aii will fully live up to its name, offering training programmes and qualifications that are widely adopted and well regarded across the whole of Asia," Abdul Rasheed added.
