Bursa appoints former EPF official Tan Ler Chin as independent non-exec director

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 15): Bursa Malaysia Bhd has appointed Tan Ler Chin as its independent non-executive director, effective Aug 16 (Wednesday).

In a statement on Tuesday (Aug 15), the bourse operator said Tan brings with her a wealth of experience and in-depth knowledge of the financial markets and investment strategies, from the various senior management roles she has held, spanning 37 years in the country’s largest retirement fund, Employees Provident Fund (EPF).

Tan, 62, retired from EPF in April 2021, where she last held the position of head of risk department.

Currently, Tan serves as an independent non-executive director of Affin Islamic Bank Bhd, Senheng New Retail Bhd, Sunway Construction Group Bhd, and QL Resources Bhd.

Tan holds an honours degree in economics majoring in statistics from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, a diploma in investment analysis from the Malaysian Association of Productivity, and a certified diploma in accounting and finance by the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants. She has also attended the Wharton-National University of Singapore banking programme.

Meanwhile, Bursa Malaysia also announced the resignation of Sharifatu Laila Syed Ali as its public interest director and independent non-executive director, effective Wednesday, “to pursue other interests”.

Sharifatu Laila has served Bursa Malaysia since Oct 1, 2020.

Shares in Bursa Malaysia closed down three sen or 0.44% at RM6.78, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM5.49 billion.
