SINGAPORE (Oct 20): Sembcorp Marine has secured two contracts worth $222 million in total, expanding its order book at a time when falling oil prices are fuelling concerns that demand for the company’s rigs and offshore vessels might weaken.

For one of the contracts, Sembmarine SLP, the rig builder’s 70%-owned subsidiary, will design and build an offshore substation platform for a wind farm jointly developed by Norwegian energy firms Statkraft and Statoil.

The contract was awarded to Sembmarine SLP by Siemens Transmission & Distribution, which is responsible for setting up the electrical system infrastructure for the so-called Dudgeon Offshore wind farm.

For the other contract, Jurong Shipyard will convert a very large crude carrier into a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel for repeat customer Modec Offshore Production Systems.

This is Jurong Shipyard’s 22nd FPSO conversion contract from Modec.

When completed in 4Q2015, the FPSO will be able to produce and treat 80,000 barrels of crude oil daily, among other things.

The two new orders, announced this morning, come a week after SembMarine said Jurong Shipyard had secured a US$696-million ($870-million) contract to convert a shuttle tanker into a FPSO vessel for OOGTK Libra GmbH & Co, a joint venture between Brazil’s Odebrecht Oil & Gas and Teekay Offshore.

SembMarine shares closed at $3.62, up 0.6%, last Friday.
