KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor PAS is hoping that a new mechanism can be put in place to ensure the smooth administration of the state, after the party’s Shura Council, considered the party’s highest decision-making body, decided to revoke its political cooperation with DAP.
Its central committee member, Sallehen Mukhyi, said that for the time being, there is no reason for the party’s state assemblymen to quit the state government.
He said the party’s central committee had to decide on a mechanism and strategies to resolve the situation because the state must remain under the control of PAS, DAP and PKR.
“We will leave the PAS central committee to come up with the suitable mechanism. For the time being, there is no problem between us and everything is running as usual,” he told The Malaysian Insider.
Sallehen said the party also depends on PKR and Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali to provide the avenue to function and continue the relationship in the name of the “state government”.
“Now, it all depends on PKR and the ‘comfort level’ the party is willing to give us. At the same time, PKR can continue working with DAP as usual,” he said.
On Selangor Umno liaison Datuk Seri Noh Omar’s challenge that all PAS state assemblymen should step down, Sallehen said such a move is not necessary because the grass roots support is still strong.
Selangor PAS Youth chief Sharhan Humaizi Halim said the movement is taking a wait-and-see stance on the matter and would wait for the decision from the party’s central committee or the state government.
“We believe that whatever decision made will be for the benefit of the party and its Islamic cause.” he said.
Last week, PAS Shura Council secretary Datuk Dr Nik Muhammad Zawawi Salleh announced the decision to terminate tahaluf siyasi (political cooperation) with DAP.
Cooperation with PKR, however, would continue. — The Malaysian Insider
