KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 5): Sunway Construction Group Bhd (KL:SUNCON) announced that it has won a RM1.74 billion contract to build a hyperscale data centre in Bandar Serendah, Selangor.

According to a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the construction arm of Sunway Bhd (KL:SUNWAY) said its wholly-owned subsidiary Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd had entered into an agreement with an unnamed international hyperscaler for the project on Thursday.

The latest win is its seventh data centre-related contract for this year and brings Sunway Construction’s new orders secured to RM9.8 billion year-to-date. This brings its outstanding total order book to RM13.4 billion.

The contract covers the construction of the data centre’s main structures, supporting infrastructure, as well as mechanical electrical and plumbing works.

Works are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, with completion targeted for the fourth quarter of 2028.

Sunway Construction said the project is expected to contribute positively to its earnings from the financial year ending Dec 31, 2026 onwards, although it is not expected to have a material immediate impact on its earnings, net assets or gearing for the current financial year.

Shares of Sunway Construction were up by two sen or 0.26% to RM7.70 at the noon break on Thursday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM10.3 billion. Year to date, the counter has risen by 35.33%.
