KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 30): CelcomDigi Bhd (KL:CDB) said on Friday it has received spectrum assignments for two blocks each in the 2600-megahertz and 900-megahertz frequency bands.

The annual spectrum fee is RM42 million for the 2,600-megahertz band for four years and RM3,500 per apparatus for the 900-megahertz band over five years, Malaysia’s largest mobile network operator by subscribers said in an exchange filing.

The assignments improve “capacity and service quality to support growing customer demand for quality and reliability”, CelcomDigi said.

The annual fees are on top of the spectrum assignment fees of RM381.75 million paid upfront for the two spectrum bands and disclosed on Oct 15. The 2,600-megahertz band is mostly used for 4G and 5G broadband services while the 900-megahertz signal travels a longer range and through buildings.

The award strengthens the spectrum portfolio across high, mid and low bands for the company that now has over 20 million customers across Malaysia.

“It affirms its commitment to infrastructure investments to meet rising connectivity and digitalisation needs in Malaysia, now through improved capital expenditure efficiency,” CelcomDigi added.

At noon break on Friday, shares of CelcomDigi shares were up one sen or 0.4% at RM2.51, valuing the company at RM29 billion.
