KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 23): Destini Bhd (KL:DESTINI) said on Wednesday that it will collaborate with transit and rail technology company Siemens Mobility Sdn Bhd to realise its ambition of becoming a digitally enabled railway maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) service provider.
According to its bourse filing on Wednesday, its 70%-owned unit M Rail Technics Sdn Bhd (Railtec) has signed a two-year agreement with Siemens Mobility to establish a reliability control centre for data-driven MRO.
The agreement encompasses the digitalisation of railway MRO activities through digital tools, platforms, data-driven maintenance practices, automation and smart depot solutions to enhance operational efficiency, safety, reliability, sustainability and lifecycle asset performance.
The collaboration will focus on digitalising railway maintenance activities, upskilling Railtec personnel and providing technical support to improve maintenance processes, depot operations, equipment and specialised systems.
“This strategic partnership with Siemens Mobility marks a significant milestone in our commitment to elevating Malaysia’s railway MRO capabilities,” Destini group managing director Datuk Seri Dr Shahril Mokhtar said in a separate statement.
“By combining Siemens’ world-class technology and digital expertise with Railtec’s deep local operational experience, we are positioning Railtec to lead the transition towards data-driven, smart maintenance solutions. This collaboration not only strengthens our capability to support national rail assets but also fosters local talent development and technical resilience in line with Malaysia’s broader industrial and transport infrastructure goals,” he added.
Destini just last month saw changes made to its board, with long-time directors Datuk Abd Aziz Sheikh Fadzir, 63, who was once its executive chairman and Ismail Mustaffa, 63, leaving the board.
Abd Aziz is Destini’s largest shareholder with a 0.455% direct interest in Destini and a 10.55% indirect stake held through Kenanga Investors Bhd on behalf of Dayanine Equity Sdn Bhd.
Shahril who was redesignated as a non-independent, non-executive director in July made his return as an executive director and the group managing director in August as part of the changes.
Destini’s shares ended one sen higher or 4.65% at 22.5 sen on Wednesday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM123.52 million.
