KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 21): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim left the Negeri Sembilan Palace in Changkat Persekutuan here on Monday after an audience of nearly an hour with the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
The prime minister, travelling in an official Mercedes-Benz vehicle, waved to media practitioners waiting outside the palace at about 7pm.
However, attempts to obtain a statement from him were unsuccessful, as Anwar merely gestured to indicate the rainy weather.
The audience is believed to have followed Tuanku Muhriz's cancellation of the appointments of the Negeri Sembilan state executive council (exco) members, effective immediately.
In a statement on Sunday night, Comptroller of the Royal Household of the Negeri Sembilan Palace Datuk Azizi Mohamad Ali said the ruler's decision was made after Tuanku Muhriz found that the exco members had breached their oaths of office.
Azizi said that under Article XXXVIII(5) of the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959, a member of the exco holds office at the pleasure of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar.
The members concerned had each taken their oath and signed a pledge of loyalty on Aug 7, before being appointed as Negeri Sembilan exco members.
Following the decision, Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim is required to submit a new list of exco candidates for Tuanku Muhriz's consideration and consent under Article XXXVIII(2) of the state constitution.
