KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 12): Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has suggested the party test PAS’ sincerity in its political cooperation by holding a state election in one of the four states controlled by PAS.
Mohamad, also known as who is known as Tok Mat or Mat Hasan, proposed that Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi consider testing whether PAS is genuinely committed to its political cooperation, rather than their understanding being “one-sided”.
“I would like to suggest that after Melaka, we try to see the extent of our friend’s sincerity. We should ask for a state election in one of the SG4, I want to see what formula you use. Hold it in Terengganu, how [will you split the seats]?” Mohamad said in his winding-up speech at the 2026 Umno general assembly on Saturday.

The SG4 refers to the four state governments that PAS, or Perikatan Nasional (PN), controls. This comprises Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu and Perlis.
Umno should not be the only one 'terhegeh-hegeh' (trying so hard) in negotiations, Mohamad noted.
“It is up to them (PAS); if they are truly sincere in the name of Penyatuan Ummah Melayu, then let us see what formula they intend to use.
“There, we will see whatever formula we can use to unite the Malays in the 16th general election later,” he added.
Umno, and in turn BN, secured major victories in both Johor and Negeri Sembilan via their cooperation with PAS-led PN.
In Johor, PAS gave way to BN, urging its voters to vote for the latter in seats PN was not contesting.
Meanwhile, in Negeri Sembilan, BN and PN formally negotiated the seats each coalition would contest.
In Johor, BN won 48 of the state’s 56 seats, while PN ended up with none. In Negeri Sembilan, BN secured 18 seats and PN with seven, a cumulative 25 of the state’s 36 seats.
