SHAH ALAM (Sept 3): Former Lembaga Tabung Haji chief operating officer Datuk Adi Azuan Abdul Ghani will be charged at a later date after he was hospitalised for heart-related treatment.
His lawyer, Wan Azwan Aiman Wan Fakhruddin, told the court that Adi Azuan had been warded at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre since Aug 31 and that it remains unclear how long he would remain hospitalised.
Sessions Court judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud accepted the explanation and subsequently fixed Sept 24 for Adi Azuan to appear in court to face the charges.
“At the moment it is not feasible to read the charge even at the hospital and we should let the accused person rest,” he added.
Adi Azuan was scheduled to appear in court at 9am on Thursday to have the charges read to him, according to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and the court cause list.
He was among five senior Tabung Haji officials named in the Royal Commission of Inquiry report that found the disciplinary action imposed on them over several cases of serious misconduct was lessened following their internal appeals.
