KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 27): Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has arrived in court to face charges by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The 66 year-old was clad in suit while he was flanked by his family and lawyers.

Ismail was slated to be charged on Aug 7, but the court granted a postponement as he had to undergo surgery for arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat caused by abnormal electrical signals in the heart.

Ismail appeared in good spirit on Thursday. He did not speak to the press.

There were also about 50 people present to show their support to the ninth prime minister of the country. 

Ismail is the third premier to face charges in court. Datuk Seri Najib Razak is currently serving time for one of his criminal cases while Ismail's predecessor Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's graft trial is currently ongoing.

Coincidentally, both Najib and Muhyiddin have cases on Thursday at the same courts complex.
