KUALA LUMPUR (July 23): Sarawak-based Zecon Bhd’s (KL:ZECON) subsidiary has received a RM328 million contract to develop a 100 megawatt (MWac) agrivoltaics solar photovoltaic facility at the Kota Petra Green Technology Park in Sarawak.

In a statement on Thursday, the group said its wholly-owned unit Zecon Renewables Sdn Bhd received the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) contract from sister company Zecon Renewables (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd.

Under the EPCC contract, Zecon Renewables will be responsible for constructing the solar PV plant and associated infrastructure, including grid connection facilities, a proposed 130-metre bridge across the Serai River, as well as site infrastructure and earthworks.

Zecon Renewables (Sarawak) is the independent power producer for the project and holds a 30-year electricity licence for solar power. In October 2025, it signed a 30-year power purchase agreement with Syarikat Sesco Bhd — a wholly-owned unit of Sarawak Energy Bhd — to design, build, own, operate and maintain the solar PV facility, with commercial operations targeted to begin by Dec 31, 2027, according to the statement.

The group said the plant represents the first phase of the renewable energy development planned for the Kota Petra Green Technology Park.

Zecon added that the group also holds a 30-year electricity licence issued by the Sarawak Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication that provides for a further 300MWac of solar capacity.

The additional capacity is intended to supply renewable electricity directly to future industrial tenants at the Kota Petra Green Technology Park, supported by a battery energy storage system alongside electricity from the state grid.

The group said the combination of the initial PPA-backed project and the remaining licensed capacity is expected to provide both contracted revenue from the first phase and opportunities to expand as industrial demand at the park grows.

Shares of Zecon closed flat at 48.5 sen on Thursday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM76.4 million.
