KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 31): Unisem (M) Bhd (KL:UNISEM) saw its net profit drop 27.5% year-on-year in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2025 (3QFY2025) due to foreign exchange losses and higher operating expenses at its new plant in Gopeng, Perak.

It also flagged a cautious operating outlook ahead amid ongoing uncertainties related to tariffs and trade restrictions.

The chip packaging and testing firm reported a net profit of RM19.38 million for the quarter, down from RM26.75 million a year earlier despite revenue rising 20.3% to RM492.74 million from RM409.74 million, owing to higher sales volume, the group said in a filing on Friday.

Earnings per share stood at 1.2 sen, down from 1.66 sen in 3QFY2024.

The group declared a third interim dividend of two sen per share, to be paid on Jan 9, 2026. Together with the earlier two payouts of two sen each, total dividends for the year so far amount to six sen per share, comparable with last year's dividend.

For the nine months ended Sept 30, 2025 (9MFY2025), net profit declined 33.6% to RM34.52 million from RM51.97 million a year ago, despite a 19% increase in revenue to RM1.39 billion from RM1.17 billion.

Segmentally, revenue from the US rose 21.7% y-o-y to RM636.06 million in 9MFY2025, followed by Europe which went up by 23.6% to RM184.88 million, and Asia, rising 14.8% to RM570.58 million.

Unisem, which provides semiconductor assembly and test services, reiterated its cautious outlook, citing continued uncertainties around tariffs and global trade policies.

At the noon market break on Friday, shares of Unisem were down two sen or 0.56% at RM3.52, with a market capitalisation of RM5.68 billion. Year to date, the counter has risen by nearly 17%.
