KUALA LUMPUR (July 31): Unisem (M) Bhd (KL:UNISEM) on Thursday said its net profit dropped 45.5% in the second quarter from a year earlier, largely dragged by lower gross profit margins stemming from changes in product mix and increased operating expenses.

Net profit for the three months ended June 30, 2025 (2QFY2025) was RM9.13 million against RM16.76 million in the same quarter a year ago, the semiconductor packaging and testing firm said in a filing.

Earnings per share fell to 0.57 sen, from 1.04 sen previously.

Unisem posted its highest quarterly revenue to date of RM475.15 million, up 20.4% from RM394.59 million in 2QFY2024, thanks to higher sales volume across its customer base.

The group has declared a second interim dividend of two sen per share for the quarter, to be paid on Oct 3, with the ex-date set for Sept 18. This brings its year-to-date dividend to four sen per share.

For the first half ended June 30, 2025 (1HFY2025), Unisem’s net profit was down 40% to RM15.14 million from RM25.22 million in the same period a year ago, while revenue rose 18.4% to RM898.77 million from RM759.36 million.

Commenting on its outlook, Unisem expects the business environment to remain challenging, due to global trade restrictions and tariff uncertainties.

By geographical segment, the US remained the group’s largest contributor with RM433.59 million or 48.2% of group revenue in 1HFY2025, followed by Asia with RM346.94 million (38.6%), and Europe RM118.25 million (13.2%).

Shares in Unisem were traded one sen or 0.43% higher to RM2.31 at noon break on Thursday, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM3.73 billion. The counter has dropped over 23% year-to-date.
