KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 17): Zetrix AI Bhd (KL:ZETRIX), creator of NurAI — the world’s first shariah-compliant artificial intelligence (AI) model — has teamed up with the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) to create an AI platform that will help Jakim issue Islamic rulings (fatwas), halal certifications and Shariah advice. The partnership also aims to set global standards for Islamic AI.
On Sept 13, 2025, Zetrix AI signed a letter of intent with the Malaysian government (Prime Minister's Department, Religious Affairs) to work together on creating a global framework for Shariah compliance, certification and governance in artificial intelligence. Jakim is responsible for managing Islamic affairs and halal certification both locally and internationally.
In a statement, Zetrix AI said Jakim seeks to enhance its capabilities through advanced technology, ensuring that Islamic rulings and halal standards remain accessible, accurate and trusted in the digital age.
The collaboration also focuses on setting ethical guidelines and certification standards for AI systems based on Islamic principles, promoting Malaysia as a global centre for Islamic AI and advancing the Islamic digital economy — projected to reach US$5.74 trillion (RM24.06 trillion) by 2030.
NurAI, developed in Malaysia on DeepSeek technology, supports multiple languages including Bahasa Melayu, Indonesian, English and Arabic. The AI model complies with national data sovereignty and cybersecurity policies, reducing reliance on foreign technologies while ensuring local data security and trustworthiness.
This initiative positions Malaysia at the forefront of Islamic AI innovation, combining religious governance with cutting-edge technology to meet the needs of Muslim communities worldwide.
Zetrix AI director Datuk Mohd Jimmy Wong Abdullah said: “This collaboration ensures that NurAI is not only technologically advanced but also firmly rooted in the ethical and cultural values of our nation.
