KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 28): Duopharma Biotech Bhd (KL:DPHARMA) has appointed Wan Amir-Jeffery Wan Abdul Majid as its new group chief executive officer, effective Oct 1, 2025. He is currently CEO of group operations at Duopharma Biotech.
Wan Amir-Jeffery’s appointment comes as Duopharma’s managing director Leonard Ariff Abdul Shatar told The Edge, as reported in the March 24-30, 2025 weekly issue, that he will not pursue an extension of his term, which was extended by a year in September 2024. Duopharma is also looking for a successor to chief financial officer Chek Wu Kong, who will retire at the end of January next year.
CGS International had tipped Wan Amir-Jeffery for the job in July this year after news broke of Leonard Ariff’s impending departure.
The research house said Wan Amir-Jeffery, who has more than two decades of experience and has been with the company since 2016, would likely maintain the company’s mid-term plans.
Wan Amir-Jeffrey joined Duopharma Biotech in 2016 as chief strategy officer. He was promoted several times: to chief operating officer in 2018, chief commercial officer in 2020, CEO — commercial in 2022, and CEO — group operations in 2024.
He is also vice-president of the Malaysian Organisation of Pharmaceutical Industries for 2025-2027.
Permodalan Nasional Bhd is the largest shareholder in Duopharma Biotech, owning 44.1% equity interest, followed by the Employees Provident Fund Board with an 8.9% stake.
