KUALA LUMPUR (April 30): The Human Resources Development Corp (HRD Corp) has appointed Rony Ambrose Gobilee to temporarily take over the helm.
Rony, its current chief strategy officer, is now also listed as “covering chief executive” on HRD Corp’s website. However, the government-led employee training facilitator has yet to issue any official statement confirming the leadership change.
The Edge has reached out to the Ministry of Human Resources, which oversees the agency, for comment.
Rony is a 22-year veteran of the organisation, according to HRD Corp’s 2023 annual report. He has more than 26 years of experience in human capital development. He previously worked at a multinational manufacturing corporation.
As chief strategy officer, Rony is responsible for overseeing the organisation’s strategic planning, fund management and the National Human Resource Centre, which includes research, analytics and development functions.
He is also leading efforts to develop new initiatives to boost human resources development levy utilisation and align strategic goals with industry needs and national workforce development.
Earlier this month, The Edge Malaysia reported that Datuk Shahul Hameed Dawood had stepped down as chief executive of HRD Corp after five years at the helm.
HRD Corp is tasked with collecting levies from some 800,000 employers to fund staff training and upskilling programmes.
Shahul and HRD Corp came under public scrutiny in July last year after the Public Accounts Committee and the Auditor General’s Report 2024 flagged alleged irregularities at the agency prior to 2022.
Human Resources Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong, who was appointed in December 2023, directed a report to be lodged with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. The agency was still investigating the HRD Corp as of Dec 9, 2024.
