KUALA LUMPUR (April 25): In efforts to restore gas supply in areas affected by the Putra Heights’ blaze three weeks ago, Petronas Gas Bhd (KL:PETGAS) said it has resumed operations at the Puchong City Gate.
A city gate station is the connecting point between the central gas pipeline and local distribution lines. At these checkpoints, gas pressure is reduced before it is passed through to reticulation lines for industrial, commercial and residential use.
“This development (reopening of the Puchong City Gate) will enable the shipper to provide gas supply to the isolated zone,” Petronas Gas said in a statement on Friday.
In a separate statement, Petronas' wholly owned gas shipper Petronas Energy & Gas Trading Sdn Bhd (PEGT) said it has made available an additional 24 million standard cubic feet per day of gas to the isolated zone at Puchong City Gate.
“This effort is part of ongoing coordination with Gas Malaysia Bhd (KL:GASMSIA) towards increasing Gas Malaysia’s gas distribution network supply volume,” PEGT said.
Petronas Gas said it remains steadfast in advancing restoration work at the incident site and is concurrently exploring ways to enhance supply capacity while maintaining integrity of the pipeline system.
“The safety of the public and its operations remain as a priority, and Petronas Gas will cooperate with relevant authorities in the incident investigation as well as to support the government’s initiatives to rebuild the affected communities,” it added.
Last week, Petronas Gas announced that gas supply restoration in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, will happen no earlier than July 1, subject to the outcome of ongoing investigations, regulatory approvals and actual progress on site.
On April 15, the group resumed operations at the Serdang City Gate to improve supply stability to the Klang Valley. It is unclear how many city gate stations were affected by the Putra Heights incident earlier this month.
Shares in Petronas Gas ended 10 sen or 0.6% higher at RM16.90 on Friday, valuing the group at RM33.44 billion.
