KUALA LUMPUR (April 8): Petronas Gas Bhd (KL:PETGAS) said the fire that occurred at its main gas pipeline near Putra Heights, Selangor, on April 1 has impacted its pipeline services in the Central Zone, which includes areas such as Shah Alam, Klang, Puchong, and Batu Tiga.

This is also approximately 7% of a gas shipper's total commitment volume to its customers, it added.

In a bourse filing on Tuesday, PetGas said it is fully committed to fulfilling its obligations under the gas transportation agreement with the gas shipper after the fire that occurred at its main pipeline near Putra Heights, Selangor, on April 1.

In the interim, PetGas said it is working closely with relevant authorities and the shipper to implement several mitigation measures aimed at ensuring a secure supply and the restoration of pipeline services in the affected areas.

It added that it is working towards restoring full operations as soon as possible while ensuring the security of supply throughout the recovery process.

On Monday, PetGas said the full financial impact of the fire will only be available after the completion of the ongoing incident investigation, tentatively to be in May.

For the financial year ended Dec 31, 2024 (FY2024), PetGas posted a marginal increase in net profit to RM1.84 billion, on revenue of RM6.54 billion.

At the time of writing, PetGas shares were down 52 sen or 3.2% at RM15.80 on Tuesday, valuing the group at RM31.26 billion.
