PUTRAJAYA (March 22): The Agriculture and Food Security Ministry has assured that there is ample supply of eggs in Malaysia to meet domestic needs.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, said close cooperation between the ministry and local egg producers has ensured that the daily production of eggs was at a stable and satisfactory level and the ministry would monitor the production and distribution chain from farm to consumer closely to ensure the stability of supply.

“Enforcement measures are also being strengthened by forming strategic partnerships between other ministries and agencies to monitor the export of food supply,” he said in a statement on Saturday.

He was addressing confusion due to several media reports about the drastic rise in egg prices in the US and allegations that there were eggs being smuggled abroad.

Mohamad also reiterated the government’s commitment, through his ministry, to ensure national food security through comprehensive strategic policies and action plans, including efforts to raise local production capacity and support for the agrofood industry.

“Therefore, the public is advised not to engage in baseless speculation and to always refer to verified information through the ministry’s official channels.

“The ministry will continue to monitor current developments and is ready to take immediate action if needed to ensure the stability of our national food supply,” he added.
