KUALA LUMPUR (March 7): Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) and Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, have collaborated to establish a joint innovation lab in Malaysia to support real-time communication (RTC) services.

In a statement, DNB said both parties are currently working to finalise the terms of the proposed collaboration, while the collaboration will focus on improving the quality of experience for RTC services on Meta’s social media and messaging platforms, leveraging the capabilities of 5G connectivity.

“The joint innovation lab aims to optimise network performance and develop cutting-edge technologies to enhance RTC quality of experience,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the collaboration will focus on developing innovative solutions to enhance RTC quality, refining network optimisation techniques to reduce latency and increase bitrate for smoother communication, and improving overall user experience for DNB’s 5G network subscribers by enhancing call clarity and reliability.

DNB chief technology officer Ken Tan Tzi Kieng said the collaboration could drive innovation and deliver superior service quality to its mobile network operator customers and their end-users.

“This cooperation reinforces our commitment to network excellence and customer-centric, continuous innovation,” Tan said.

Meta connectivity technologies and ecosystems manager Vinod Samarawickrama added that the proposed collaboration with DNB highlights the potential for joint efforts to enhance user experience.

“We are committed to driving innovation in mobile networks, and look forward to continuing our work with the connectivity ecosystem in Malaysia. This initiative is a testament to our dedication to enhancing the quality of real-time communication services on our platforms,” Vinod said.

DNB had signed another agreement on Thursday with Ericsson, aimed at advancing enterprise digitalisation, enhancing connectivity, and fostering innovation.

That partnership seeks to foster innovation by expanding the global application programming interface network ecosystem, which would enable developers to integrate functionalities from other applications, simplifying and accelerating the development process.
