KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 24): YTL Communications Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of YTL Power International Bhd (KL:YTLPOWR), entered into a joint venture with Bullish Aim Group to develop next-generation fibre infrastructure in Johor.
The development of the fibre network is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2025 and will provide coverage across major townships in Johor, including areas that are currently underserved by advanced telecommunications infrastructure.
In a statement on Monday, the companies indicated that the new fibre optic network would improve data transmission capabilities and enhance operational efficiency for telecom providers and businesses.
The initiative aligns with Malaysia’s digital transformation goals by providing scalable, high-capacity connectivity solutions that benefit industries ranging from cloud computing and artificial intelligence to Internet of Things and 5G, it added.
It is also expected to reduce the duplication of infrastructure, lower service provider costs, and support a more sustainable and inclusive approach to technology development.
The collaboration aims to address the increasing demand for high-speed connectivity and reliable data services.
“With Johor being the major hub for data centres, this joint venture will invest in and build the fibre backbone necessary to bring the new digital economy to fruition, driving exponential growth and deployment of digital services and leading-edge technology.
“We are excited to partner with Bullish Aim Group to bring reliable, high-speed connectivity from Johor to every corner of the nation and across the globe,” said YTL Communications and YTL Power managing director Datuk Seri Yeoh Seok Hong in a statement.
Bullish Aim Group, a company recognised for its expertise in telecommunications infrastructure, is expected to contribute its innovative solutions to the project.
YTL Communications, which offers mobile and internet-based services under the ‘Yes’ brand, has been a leader in the rollout of 5G services in Malaysia.
At the time of writing, YTL Power shares were down 10 sen or 3.1% at RM3.12, valuing the company at RM25.81 billion.
