KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 11): Muhammed Yusoff Rawther, who had previously worked with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim when he was opposition leader, has been remanded by the police since last Friday (Sept 6).

Police had purportedly found 305 grammes of cannabis and two pistols in the car Muhammed Yusoff was driving when stopped by the police.

His lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali said Muhammed Yusoff is being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and the Firearms Act 1960.

According to Rafique, Muhammed Yusoff denied the allegation, claiming the pistols and drugs were not his.

“His urine test also turned out negative for drugs,” Rafique said, adding that when Muhammed Yusoff had his statement taken, he claimed that the drug and guns were planted there.

“He further claimed that they were planted by certain parties who are out for revenge and have enmity feelings against him. They include those or names related to certain political leaders,” the lawyer said.

The lawyer had sought for the police to allow his client to lodge a police report on the matter, so that the claims would not be labelled as an afterthought or something that was made up.

Rafique said his client was worried over his safety, especially since he (Muhammed Yusoff) has an ongoing civil suit against an influential person.

Muhammed Yusoff’s remand, the lawyer said, would end on Thursday (Sept 12), and on Wednesday afternoon, they would likely know the outcome on whether it would be extended or otherwise.

“His family members are supportive of him and hope the police are professional in doing their duty,” Rafique added in a statement.

Muhammed Yusoff has an ongoing civil suit against Anwar at the High Court here, over alleged sexual assault that purportedly happened in October 2018, in Anwar’s Bukit Segambut residence.

Anwar, who is the PKR president and current prime minister, has denied the allegation and has filed a counterclaim.
