KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 19): Umno views seriously the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah’s decree for police the take firm action against Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for allegedly touching on 3R issues (race, religion, royalty) while campaigning in the Nenggiri state by-election recently.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, however, said the party would leave it to the authorities to handle the issue.

“I’m sure with such a decree, the relevant authorities will also give serious consideration to appropriate action that needs to be taken,” said Mohamed Khaled, who is also defence minister, after launching the Ministry of Defence (Mindef) Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign in conjunction with the National Month celebration here on Monday.

In a statement earlier, Tengku Hassanal wants police to take firm action against Muhyiddin for allegedly touching on 3R issues while campaigning in the Nenggiri state by-election.

Tengku Hassanal also expressed his anger and disappointment with the action of the Perikatan Nasional chairman, who he said deliberately questioned the duties and role of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, when he was the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Tengku Hassanal claimed that the former prime minister and veteran politician manipulated facts to present a negative narrative to the public by suggesting that Al-Sultan Abdullah acted unfairly during the selection of the 10th prime minister.

“This statement is also very dangerous as it openly incites the public to lose trust in the Institution of Malay Rulers and divides the people,” the Crown Prince said in the statement, which was also uploaded to his Instagram story @this.7.

In Jitra, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail expressed hope that Muhyiddin would give full cooperation to the authorities investigating the case.

“I was made to understand that the Inspector-General of Police (Tan Sri Razarudin Husain) has already set a date for him (Muhyiddin) to be summoned to record his statement. I’m sure he will have no problem giving his cooperation,” he told reporters after the launch of state-level National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang campaign at Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Polytechnic on Monday.

On Sunday, Razarudin said the police would call Muhyiddin to give his statement on Aug 20 after receiving 29 reports from various parties regarding the matter.

Tengku Hassanal’s private secretary Amir Syaffiq Hamzah had also lodged a police report on the matter at 10pm on Sunday.
