KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 22): The Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) has received consent to charge Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid, the wife of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, on Tuesday.

Na'imah is scheduled to be charged at the Sessions Court here, a check with the court's e-filing system revealed.

When contacted by The Edge, head of MACC's prosecution division Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Laden confirmed the matter.

She is expected to face a charge for allegedly failing to comply with the MACC notice in giving her statement to declare her assets.

Na’imah, 67, was called up by the MACC to give a statement on Jan 10 when she was grilled for nine hours, her lawyers said.

Before giving her statement, Na’imah held a press conference outside the MACC headquarters where she said her husband’s success in business is not a crime, and asked if Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was suggesting that rich Malay businessmen resort to corruption.

Daim himself was scheduled to give a statement with the MACC on Jan 15 but did not show up as he was unwell, according to a source.

The octogenarian, his wife and children along with their company Ilham Tower Sdn Bhd had also filed a judicial review application challenging the graftbuster's freezing of their bank accounts and seizure of the 60-storey Ilham Tower located on Jalan Binjai in Kuala Lumpur City Centre on Dec 18.
