KUALA LUMPUR (July 28): RHB Banking Group has appointed Mohd Farid Kamarudin as the managing director of RHB Asset Management Sdn Bhd, effective from Aug 1.

Mohd Farid, who was the chief executive officer of RHB Islamic International Asset Management Bhd before his appointment, began his career as an investment analyst at Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) in 1996.

He subsequently worked at different asset management companies, where he covered research and management of sukuk fixed income and equity funds or mandates, regulatory reporting and product development.

Mohd Farid then joined AmIslamic Funds Management Sdn Bhd as its executive director in 2007, where he managed sukuk funds.

Prior to joining RHB, Mohd Farid was the head of Asian Islamic investment and CEO of Threadneedle Asset Management Malaysia.

“Mohd Farid’s extensive experience in conventional and Islamic fund management and unit trust, his continuous drive to create long-term value by introducing sustainable and innovative products that cater to evolving economic and industry trends, and his proven track record in delivering results will stand him in good stead to help accelerate the group's asset management and trustees business in Malaysia and Singapore,” said Syed Ahmad Taufik Albar, the managing director of Group Wholesale Banking at RHB Banking Group.

Mohd Farid possesses a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK, and was awarded the Certificate of Legal Practice by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board of Malaysia in 1996.

In 2002, he obtained a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment from the PNB Investment Institute, a joint venture between PNB and the Securities Institute of Australia.

He also holds a Capital Markets Services Representative’s Licence for the regulated activity of fund management.
