KUALA LUMPUR (June 1): The former executive director and head of global corporate bank at JP Morgan Chase Bank Bhd, Nurjesmi Mohd Nashir, has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of Affin Bank Bhd’s investment banking arm Affin Hwang Investment Bank Bhd.
His appointment took effect from Thursday (June 1), said Affin Bank in a statement.
This confirms a report by The Edge Malaysia weekly in its May 15-21, 2023 edition, which quoted sources as saying that Nurjesmi is expected to be appointed as Affin Hwang Investment’s new CEO.
Nurjesmi brings with him more than 25 years of experience in banking industry and capital markets.
He started his career in the brokerage industry as equity analyst at Maybank Securities, and subsequently at Arab Malaysian Securities from 1994 until 1996.
He then joined Citibank Bhd’s SME (small and medium enterprises) division in 1996, before holding a succession of roles in corporate banking, and was subsequently appointed as head of public sector, overseeing predominantly the government linked companies’ portfolio up to 2013 at the same banking institution.
“Nurjesmi’s appointment will place him in an excellent position to steer Affin Hwang towards the next phase of expansion, building upon its achievements and guaranteeing that the bank consistently ‘Out Think. Out Perform’ for its clients,” said Affin Bank.
