KUALA LUMPUR (April 7): Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) said that its upstream unit Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (PCSB) confirmed a gas leak incident occurred at its Bekok-A platform offshore Terengganu at 2.45am Tuesday (April 4).
In a statement, PCSB said it has evacuated all personnel from the platform.
“Our Emergency Response Team has been mobilised to contain the situation,” it said.
“PCSB has also suspended operations at Bekok-A platform until further notice and is closely monitoring the situation,” it added.
“We would like to assure that the safety of our personnel remains an utmost priority. All relevant authorities have been notified and an investigation is currently underway,” it added.
According to reports, Bekok-A — an 8-legged Central Processing Platform (CPP) — operates at the Bekok field 250km offshore Terengganu alongside Bekok-B and C platforms.
Bekok-B is an unmanned remote platform, which sends full well stream production for processing to Bekok-A, whereas gas produced from Bekok-A is processed at Bekok-C platform.
