PETALING JAYA: Bagan Pinang assemblyman Azman Mohd Nor died of a heart attack at the Seremban Hospital on Friday afternoon, Sept 4.

The Umno representative was 51 years old and a first-time state assemblyman in Negeri Sembilan.

During last year’s general election, Azman beat PAS candidate Ramli Ismail by 2,333 votes.

Azman won 6,430 votes to Ramli’s 4,097. The seat had 14,192 registered voters while turnout last year was 81.59%. There were 384 spoilt votes among the 10,911 returned.

Malay voters make up 66% of the constituency, Chinese around 10.5%, Indian voters 19.9% and others are around 3.5%.

Bagan Pinang is one of four state seats under the Teluk Kemang parliamentary constituency. The others are Chuah, Lukut and Linggi.

The Teluk Kemang seat is currently held by PKR’s Kamarul Ariffin Abbas.

Chuah is represented by PKR’s Chai Tong Chai while Lukut is held by DAP’s Ean Yong Tin Sin. Linggi is represented by Umno’s Ismail Taib.
