KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 27): Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) said today it has signed an agreement to purchase energy of up to 100 megawatt from Electricite Du Laos (EDL) in Laos via existing transmission grid of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT).
This is the first multilateral energy exchange or trading in Asean, it added.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia today, TNB said the deal governs the obligations of the parties to sell, wheel and purchase energy from EDL via EGAT to TNB for two years from Jan 1, 2018.
"TNB is under no obligation to purchase any minimum amount of energy from EDL," it added.
TNB said the deal will have a neutral impact on its earnings.
TNB shares closed 0.28% or 4 sen lower at RM14.36 today, giving it a market capitalisation of RM81.04 billion.
