SINGAPORE (June 9): South Korea is the latest country to grant a patent to iX Biopharma’s WaferiX drug delivery technology, says the pharmaceutical firm on Thursday.

WaferiX is an alternative drug delivery method that enables drugs to be administered sublingually and delivered rapidly into the bloodstream.

The group claims WaferiX’s advantages include fewer side-effects and more rapid drug absorption.

WaferiX has already been granted patents in Japan and Indonesia last year, while counterpart patents have already been granted in Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Malaysia.

The group has pending patent applications in US, Europe, China, India, Canada, South Africa, Hong Kong, Thailand and Vietnam.

The South Korean patent will expire in 2030.

The counter closed unchanged at 31 cents on Thursday.
