GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce will be holding a seminar on the Strata Management Act 2013 at the Tan Kok Ping Hall in its premises on Lebuh Light here on Aug 21.

The seminar titled “Mission Impossible of Strata Management Act and Regulations” is to enable better understanding of the relatively new law, organising chairman Datuk Alex Ooi Kee Liang said.

“In June, the Penang government endorsed the Strata Management Act 2013 (Act 757). The new law replaces Act 663 — the Building and Common Property (Maintenance and Management) Act 2007.

“The new Act is highly pertinent to the Penang housing industry as approximately 60% of the housings on the island are strata units. It covers a wide perspective of the subject, addressing many issues related to the maintenance and management of buildings and common property.

“Because of its extensive coverage, the organising committee acknowledges that players in the industry will require more workshops, discussions and sharing sessions for in-depth understanding of the Act,” he said on Tuesday.

Lawyer Lee Kim Noor, a well-known expert on topics related to property management and strata management, will speak at the seminar.

“She is an experienced lawyer, who is also involved in reviewing Malaysian law on property development and strata management.

“We believe Lee will provide a fruitful session for the participants, especially our target audience from the housing and property management sector, lawyers, bankers, real estate agents and all industry players.”

Lee will be speaking on a number of topics including damage policy for insurance, state management tribunal, limited common property and subsidiaries management, recovery of service charges, by-laws, and issues related to building damage and defects.

The seminar is from 2.15pm to 5.30pm. Seats are limited to 100.

Registration fee is RM60 for members and RM100 for non-members, inclusive of GST. Deadline for registration is Aug 18.
