KOTA BHARU (Nov 20): Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidates contesting under the PAS logo in the 15th General Election (GE15) in Kelantan, swept all 14 Parliamentary seats in the state.
The nine PAS and five Bersatu candidates won the Tumpat, Pengkalan Chepa, Kota Bharu, Pasir Mas, Rantau Panjang, Kubang Kerian, Bachok, Ketereh, Tanah Merah, Pasir Puteh, Machang, Jeli, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang seats.
Kelantan Election Commission (EC) director Fakhrul Razi Ab Wahab said voter turnout was around 70%, with the earliest results coming from Pasir Puteh at 10.35pm, and Kubang Kerian being the last to announce its results at 12.18am.
Meanwhile, Kelantan PN chairman Datuk Ahmad Yakob described the coalition’s success as proof that voters did not consider the party nor the candidate, but instead focused on the coalition’s manifesto.
“I see that the young people of Kelantan have given their cooperation in a big way. This also reflects the message sent by the youth.
“Thus, PAS will continue to provide the best service in the name of PN to the people,” he said at a press conference at the Kelantan PAS Office here.
Regarding the Gua Musang results, Fakhrul Razi said the EC received an application by Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah for a vote recount.
He said that the EC rejected the application on grounds that a recount could not be made at the official vote tallying centre.
“A recount can only be made at the channel if the majority obtained by the winner is less than 4%.
“If the candidate is dissatisfied, they have to file an election petition on certain basis,” he said.
Tengku Razaleigh suffered a shock defeat at the hands of PN candidate Datuk Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, who won with a thin majority of 163 votes, garnering 21,826 votes against Tengku Razaleigh’s 21,663 votes.
