KUALA LUMPUR (April 24): The Ministry of Education issued an apology for an incorrect depiction of Malaysia’s national flag, the Jalur Gemilang, on an exam results analysis report distributed on Thursday.
In a statement, the ministry said the error was made in the analysis report of SPM examination results.
“This negligence is unacceptable as the Jalur Gemilang is a symbol of the nation’s pride and sovereignty. Strict and immediate action has been taken against all those involved,” the Education Ministry said.
“A thorough investigation is also being carried out,” it added.
The ministry noted that the printed analysis reports have been requested to be returned and immediate corrections are being made.
The flag mistake follows a series of similar incidents in recent weeks.
Last week, Chinese-language newspaper Sin Chew Daily published an incorrect depiction of the Jalur Gemilang on the front page of its April 15 edition paper.
Its peer Kwong Wah Yit Poh also made a similar error when it posted an incomplete illustration of the Jalur Gemilang on its official Facebook page.
Another Jalur Gemilang faux pas was reported over the weekend at a maternity fair. A Singaporean exhibitor, Singapore Lactation Bakes, featured a video backdrop at its booth that showed the Jalur Gemilang missing the crescent moon.
