KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 30): Agrobank announced that its president and chief executive officer Datuk Wan Mohd Fadzmi Wan Othman is stepping down on Aug 31, 2017, after six years at the helm of the government-owned agricultural bank.

Agrobank said it is still looking for a successor. In the meantime, its chief financial officer Masaat Awadz will cover the duties and roles of the CEO, said Agrobank.

During his tenure between 2011 and 2017, Mohd Fadzmi was mandated to lead the bank through a five-year transformation programme, which sought to strengthen the bank’s core business in the agriculture sector.

“My mission as a turnaround manager is finalised,” said Mohd Fadzmi in a statement today.

“It has been an enormous privilege to have led Agrobank during an important period of transformation and growth. I am proud to have worked with remarkable colleagues who are so committed to growing the agriculture and food industry,” he added.

Under Wan Fadzmi’s watch, the bank had reduced non-performing finance (NPF) to a single digit, and introduced more financial products and services particularly for the agriculture community.

His leadership also helped Agrobank register its best financial performance in 2016, with total financing value hitting RM8.7 billion that year.

Another key transformation that Mohd Fadzmi did was to turn Agrobank into a full-fledged Islamic Bank within a three-year timeline — a feat that was completed by July 2015.

In 2016, Mohd Fadzmi was awarded ‘CEO of the Year 2016' award by the Global Islamic Finance Awards (GIFA). He also received the “Outstanding CEO of the Year” by the Association of Development Financing Institution in Asia and the Pacific in 2017.
