KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 8): As HNG Capital observes its 50th anniversary, siblings Datuk Sean H’ng Chun Hsiang and Datin Seri Jessica H’ng Hsieh Ling — group CEO and group CFO respectively — represent a new generation of Malaysian leaders who see legacy as something to continuously reinvent rather than merely protect. Their end goal is clear: to ensure the company they inherited remains relevant in the next 50 years. “Looking ahead, we have two different drivers that are going to bring the business to new heights: the growth of renewable sources and data centres,” Sean says.

Jessica chimes in, “Maybe it’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing, but suddenly everything is just so exciting. There’s like a shift where everyone is talking about energy and data centres, which are basically the core of what we do. We’ve never seen anything like this before.”

Meanwhile, the inaugural edition of Kain Fashion Incubator is set to elevate the Malaysian fashion scene by giving both emerging and established designers and businesses a launch pad for their careers. The brainchild of local designer Seah Shao Fen, this initiative selects 10 applicants who will embark on a six-month incubator period between December 2026 and May 2027, where they will be offered mentorship, business tools and networking opportunities. By the end of the programme, participants will present capsule collections in conjunction with KL Festival 2027. Applications are open until Nov 20.

Outside of Malaysia, Samara Lombok is now in its final phase of development and scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2028. Located just East of Bali on the island where it gets its name, the luxury integrated destination is founded by Erik Barreto, Steve Ebsworth and Tom Wheeler, whose collective resume includes Singapore-based hospitality group Rascal Republic. With this project, they seek to bring together accommodation, dining, sport, wellness and a personal approach to luxury, marking Lombok as the next tourist hotspot within the Indonesian archipelago.
