PUTRAJAYA (Nov 6): The Ministry of Digital is redoubling its efforts to develop the local digital and artificial intelligence (AI) talent ecosystem to ensure that the rakyat and the national economy reap maximum benefits.

Digital minister Gobind Singh Deo said this commitment is further strengthened following the Budget 2027 announcement, which positions the development of future-ready human capital as a key driver towards achieving Malaysia's aspiration of becoming an AI Nation by 2030.

In line with the Malaysia Digital Blueprint 2030 (MD2030) and the National AI Action Plan 2026–2030 under the Madani Economy framework and the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13), the Ministry of Digital emphasised that Malaysia does not merely aspire to be a technology consumer.

"Instead, the focus is centred on efforts to build the capabilities of the rakyat and local companies to produce digital and AI solutions that solve real problems for the people, the public sector, and industry," he said in a statement.

According to him, the Ministry of Digital plays a role in uniting the strengths of the government, industry, academia, and the community as a catalyst for the nation's digital and AI ecosystem.

Anchored in MD2030 and Budget 2027, the ministry's main focus is equipping local talent with world-class skills so they transition from merely knowing technology to building Made-in-Malaysia applications and solutions.

"The ministry's goal is to produce more Made-in-Malaysia solutions that benefit the rakyat, meet national needs, and have the potential to penetrate broader markets," he said.

To achieve this goal, Gobind said the Ministry of Digital acts to coordinate direction, connect relevant agencies and ecosystem partners through the roles of implementing agencies and entities.

This encompasses the roles of agencies and entities such as GovTech Malaysia; the National Digital Department (JDN); the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC); and MyDIGITAL Corporation: AI Malaysia Bhd.

"The Ministry of Digital is always prepared to expand collaborative networks with local companies, startups, universities, training providers, and the tech community to complement the ecosystem through the provision of expertise, research, product development, and knowledge-transfer programmes.

"The Madani government is committed to ensuring that every investment and fiscal allocation is translated into tangible results: producing more high-value tech creators, boosting the competitiveness of local companies, and guaranteeing safe and ethical AI governance," he said.
