KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 6): Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said on Friday that she has no knowledge of the payment reportedly made to settle the RM50 million fine on her imprisoned husband Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
"I don't know, the family doesn't know, I am not being told about it," she said when asked about Utusan Malaysia’s report that two of Najib's representatives were seen leaving the court payment counter.
The Edge has verified that no payment has been made for the former prime minister.
Utusan Malaysia reported earlier on Friday morning that two of Najib's representatives had been seen leaving the court payment counter.
When asked about this, Rosmah in turn questioned who were the representatives.
"Who are the representatives? If you know, you should tell. [The press] always 'know better', then after that, they retract the statement," she said in jest.
When asked about an update on Umno's fundraising, Rosmah said that she didn't know, as she was not the one handling it.
Rosmah was in court on Friday for her own criminal case.
Word has been rife in recent days that the RM50 million fine would be settled soon, paving the way for Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence in the confines of his home.
On Tuesday, Najib's lead defence counsel Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah also said that he had no knowledge when his client's fine would be paid.
On Sept 18, it was announced that the Federal Territory Pardons Board — under the King, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar — allowed Najib to serve the remainder of his reduced jail term under house arrest with the caveat that he pays the RM50 million fine first.
In the SRC International Sdn Bhd case, the court had upheld Najib's guilty verdict for abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering, as well as his 12-year jail term and RM210 million fine.
However, in 2024, the Pardons Board, under the then-Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, had reduced these to six years and RM50 million.
Najib began serving his jail term on Aug 22, 2022. Following the reduction, his jail term is expected to end in August 2028.
