MELAKA (Nov 6): Voters in the Melaka state election are urged to choose elected representatives who have a "direct line" to the Prime Minister's Office to ensure smooth development processes and the protection of local residents' welfare.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said good relations and alignment of direction between the federal administration and state assemblymen at the state legislative assembly level are vital to ensuring the smooth implementation of development projects and public welfare policies.
Citing the PH candidates for the Paya Rumput (N.13) and Kelebang (N.14) state seats as examples, Anwar said both candidates share the same direction as the federal government, and their credibility and integrity are greatly needed to effectively translate government policies at the grassroots level.
"I look after the country, and I want those who represent us to help follow this line — they must follow this policy. So can our representative here, Tok Man (Datuk Azman Abidin) in the Paya Rumput DUN, help? Let there be a direct voice to my office. Similarly with our young female candidate (Farzana Hayani Mohd Nasir) in Kelebang — pleasing in appearance, good at work, and hardworking," he said.
Anwar, who is also the prime minister, said this when delivering his speech at the Ceramah Perdana Melaka Rumah Kita for the Paya Rumput state assembly seat here on Thursday night.
According to him, having elected representatives who possess a "direct line" and close working relationship with the nation's top leadership provides a major advantage to voters in bringing any infrastructure, drainage, or socioeconomic issues directly to the government's attention.
Therefore, Anwar reminded voters in the Melaka state election to make wise assessments when choosing leadership by electing candidates who truly work for the people, rather than those who merely stoke sentiments throughout the campaign.
Meanwhile, speaking at a separate event while attending the Madani Sinar Deepavali Celebration at the Kampung Permai Main Hall in Machap Umboo here, Anwar said he is optimistic that PH can secure a victory in the 16th Melaka state election on Nov 14.
“I know they say, 'Oh, Melaka is not a PH stronghold.' I know it’s not a PH stronghold... Selangor was never a PH stronghold before either, nor was Perak.
“Yes, [politics] has its ebbs and flows, but this time I believe we can start bringing change - we start bringing change here in Melaka to save the country,” he said.
The Election Commission has fixed Nov 14 as polling day for the Melaka PRN, with early voting on Nov 10.
