PETALING JAYA (Nov 4): The Transport Ministry is actively working to resolve train service congestion and overcome technical challenges faced by rail operators, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.
"Rapid KL is working to address various technical challenges. We will resolve these technical issues to improve the service," he said.
Loke told reporters this at his ministry’s get-together event with Tamil media practitioners at the Tropicana Golf and Country Resort here on Wednesday.
On Oct 30, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim directed the transport minister to swiftly resolve train congestion issues, expressing concern that they disrupt the public's daily routine.
The directive followed a complaint posted by a user on the Threads platform to Anwar regarding overcrowding at train stations.
Meanwhile, Loke said train frequencies have been increased for the festive season to encourage more people to use public transport when returning to their hometowns.
He said Electric Train Service (ETS) trips from Kuala Lumpur to west coast states, including Kedah and Johor, received an encouraging response, with additional services scheduled ahead of Deepavali.
"We have added trips ahead of Deepavali, and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) is working to ensure service frequency is increased so that more people can take the train home," he said.
Earlier, speaking on the event, Loke said it served as a platform to strengthen ties between the ministry and Tamil media practitioners in conjunction with Deepavali.
He noted that the media plays a vital role in disseminating information on ministry policies and services to all segments of society, including the Indian community.
Loke added that close cooperation with media practitioners is essential to ensure clear communication on road safety, public transport, the Road Transport Department (JPJ), and the aviation sector.
