KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 4): The Court of Appeal has fixed Feb 22, 2027 to hear an appeal by the Registrar of Societies (ROS) against a High Court ruling that paused the order to deregister the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
The appellate court directed both parties to file their written submissions by Jan 25, 2027, ahead of the oral arguments in February. The court also set Feb 9, 2027 for case management prior to the main hearing.
PN counsel Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali confirmed the scheduling details with The Edge.
On Oct 22, High Court judge Datuk Azizan Md Arshad granted an interim stay against the ROS decision to revoke PN’s registration. The ruling temporarily freezes any enforcement of the deregistration order, preserving the opposition coalition's legal status while its underlying judicial review application is being deliberated by the High Court.
The legal dispute escalated after the ROS issued a notification revoking PN’s registration. The order threatened the coalition's legal standing to operate and field candidates under its official crest, putting its participation in the ongoing Melaka state election in jeopardy.
Leaders from PN's constituent parties promptly filed for a judicial review, arguing that the registrar’s decision was unlawful and seeking declarations to void the revocation notices. The High Court will hear their judicial review application on Dec 7.
Judge Azizan emphasised that granting the stay was necessary to preserve the status quo and prevent irreparable administrative prejudice to the coalition pending the final disposal of the lawsuit.
